Sodium Butyrate CAS 156-54-7

Sodium butyrate (NaB) is the sodium salt of butyric acid, with the molecular formula CH3CH2CH2COONa, a relative molecular weight of 110.09, a self ignition temperature of 425.0 ℃, and a melting point of 250.0~253.0 ℃. Generally white to off white in color, it is a hygroscopic powder that resembles fluff and has a unique cheese like rancid odor. It is easily soluble in water and has an alkaline pH, making it stable to light and heat. Sodium butyrate dissociates into butyrate (C4H7O2-) and sodium ions (Na+) in animal bodies. Butyric acid is a type of short chain fatty acid with amphiphilic properties towards water and lipids, with a greater emphasis on lipophilicity. It is not easily decomposed at pH 4-6. Therefore, butyric acid can help animals avoid acidic environments after feeding and play a role in the cecum and colon. The final metabolites of butyrate are ketone bodies and carbon dioxide, providing approximately 75% of the energy for intestinal mucosal cells.

1. Performance and use

Sodium butyrate (NaB) is the sodium salt of butyric acid, with the molecular formula CH3CH2CH2COONa, a relative molecular weight of 110.09, a self ignition temperature of 425.0 ℃, and a melting point of 250.0~253.0 ℃.

The main application method in animal production is to add sodium butyrate products to animal feed, which serve as intestinal mucosal nutrition agents, electrolyte balance regulators, gastrointestinal microbiota regulators, compound acidifiers, flavorings, and attractants.
