Aluminum Stearate
CAS 637-12-7
Alais:Stearic acid aluminium salt
Molecular formula:C54H105AlO6
Molecular weight:877.39
Structural formula:
1. Performance and use
Aluminum stearate, also known as aluminum octadecate, has the chemical formula (C17H35COO) 3Al. Molecular weight 877.35. The pure product is a white powder. The relative density is 1.070, the melting point is 115 ℃, and the impurity is a light yellow powder. Insoluble in water, ethanol, ether, soluble in solvents such as alkali fuel, mineral oil, petroleum, kerosene, and benzene. Can form crystalline pyridine complexes. Decompose into stearic acid and corresponding aluminum salts when encountering strong acids. Due to its good moisture absorption and stability, aluminum stearate is often used as a wood preservative, which can effectively prevent wood decay and insect infestation.
Aluminum stearate is an important organic metal salt commonly used as an additive and additive. It has many important applications and plays a crucial role in industries such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, coatings, inks, plastics, rubber, etc. It has functions such as stability, emulsification, moisture absorption, corrosion prevention, and fire prevention. This product is used as a heat stabilizer and lubricant for polyvinyl chloride plastics, as a raw material for metal rust inhibitors, waterproofing agents for building materials, anti settling agents for paints, polishing agents for inks, thickening agents for cosmetics, and thickening agents for lubricating oils. Aluminum stearate is used as a smoothing and thickening agent in coatings, and also has the effect of improving the thixotropy of coatings. Metal soap was a commonly used matting agent in early times, mainly consisting of some metal stearates such as aluminum stearate, zinc stearate, calcium stearate, magnesium stearate, and so on. Among them, aluminum stearate is the most widely used.
