Turpentine oil CAS 8006-64-2

Turpentine is a type of essential oil and is the most widely produced essential oil. It is an aromatic volatile oil obtained by distillation or extraction from the oleoresin exuded from the wood of Pinus pinaster PinusmassonianaLamb, Pinus pinaster PinustabulaeformisCarr. or its congeners in the Pinaceae family. Has a special fragrant odour, it is composed of a mixture of hydrocarbons, which contains a large number of terpene compounds. According to the source of raw materials are divided into fat turpentine, wood turpentine, sulfate turpentine Chemicalbook and dry distillation turpentine 4 kinds. ① will be harvested cut turpentine with water vapour or other methods of distillation of the liquid oil, called greasy turpentine. ② with organic solvents leaching Mingzi wood chips, the leaching solution obtained, first evaporate the solvent, and then distilled with water vapour, you can get wood turpentine (leaching turpentine). ③ pine as the main raw material, with sulfate method pulp meal, cooking wood chips discharged mixed gas, condensation and separation, to get the crude sulfate turpentine, distillation of net system to get sulfate turpentine. ④The turpentine obtained from the dry distillation of the seeds is called dry-distilled turpentine.

1. Performance and use:

Turpentine is a transparent colourless or light yellow liquid with aromatic odour, it is an excellent solvent, it is miscible with organic solvents such as ether, ethanol, benzene, carbon disulphide, carbon tetrachloride and petrol, and insoluble in water. It has an irritating effect on skin and mucous membranes. The physical properties of turpentine such as specific gravity, refractive index, spin, viscosity, etc. are related to the composition of the oil. In terms of spinosity, the turpentine of horsetail pine, wetland pine and coast pine is left-spinning; the turpentine of southern Asian pine, Simao pine, European pine and longleaf pine is right-spinning. Superior fat turpentine other physical properties are: specific heat 0.45 ~ 0.47, thermal conductivity 0.117 kcal / m - hour - ° K, calorific value of 10850 kcal / kg, flash point (open Chemicalbook) 35 ℃, spontaneous combustion point of 235 ℃, is a second-grade flammable, easy to explode at high temperatures, and strong oxidising agents can also be combusted and exploded. Explosive limit in the air at 32 ~ 35 ℃ for the volume of 0.8% or 45 grams / cubic metre. Turpentine itself is not acidic, containing traces of resin acid with a slightly acidic value. Terpenes oxidised by air also form free acids. Turpentine in the moisture and light conditions, easy to absorb the oxygen in the air into a yellow resin-like product, known as turpentine yellowing or resinous. Therefore, turpentine should not be stored for a long time. It can be added to prevent the oxidation of turpentine. The main component of turpentine is pinene, and its chemical properties are determined by the reaction of double bond and four-carbon ring in the molecular structure of pinene.

Turpentine as a chemical raw material is widely used in art glass, paint, camphor manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, rosin production and other industries have access to turpentine. Turpentine is an excellent solvent with strong solvency for organic matter, and is traditionally used in paints, catalytic agents, ointments, shoe polishes, adhesives and pharmaceuticals. The use of turpentine in the main components, after reprocessing, in the synthetic chemicals and fragrances developed a lot of new products. (1) synthetic turpentine alcohol: α-pinene in sulfuric acid catalysed, easy to open the ring hydration generated hydrated terpene glycol, hydrated terpene glycol in dilute acid under the action of 1 molecule of water to get terpene alcohol mixtures, the main component of α-turpentine alcohol (see turpentine alcohol, pine oil). (2) Synthetic camphor: under the action of titanium dioxide, pinene isomerises to form camphene. Camphene and formic acid or glacial acetic acid reaction to generate isoborneol ester, hydrolysis of isoborneol. After hydrolysis, isoborneol is obtained. Then the synthetic camphor is dehydrogenated. (3) Linalool: α-pinene hydrogenated into pinane, pinane peroxide by air oxidation, reduced to get pinanol, and then by thermal cracking and linalool, is a large variety of spices, but also the synthesis of Vitamin C Chemicalbook raw pigment E intermediates, esterification of linalyl acetate and other esters. (4) β-pinene pyrolysis into lauricene, is the largest spice intermediates. Lauryl can be made of geraniol, nerol, new belladonna aldehyde, citrus green aldehyde, as well as ambergris and wood with ambergris ketone and strong animal aroma of bicyclic enolenic nitrile, lindane lactone and so on. From lauric acid linalyl acetate reaction with sodium acetate after hydrochlorination, and then saponification can also get linalool. (5) China horsetail pine turpentine oil contains more sesquiterpenes longifolene and stilbene. Longifolium in the acid catalysed by isomerization of isofolium, isofolium ketone, epoxy isofolium, hydroxymethyl isofolium acetate and other raw materials, they all have wood. Longifolia alkene with formic acid treatment, the generation of wood-flavoured formic acid esters. Staphylocene acetylation can be obtained acetyl staphylocene, it will be epoxidised to epoxy staphylocene, with a floral aroma, and its ketone has wood and ambergris. As turpentine oil in a variety of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes and their isomers in the diversity of compounds, making it possible to synthesise a variety of products, has a wide range of uses. There are also many new products to be developed and utilised.
