Hexafluorosilicic acid
CAS 16961-83-4
Alais: FLUOROSILICIC ACID
Molecular formula: F6H2Si
Molecular weight: 144.09
Structural formula:
1. Performance and use
Fluorosilicic acid, also known as "silicofluoric acid". Chemical formula H2SiF6. Molecular weight 144.09. Colorless gas. There is a pungent odor. Toxic! Strongly corrodes the skin. The chemical properties are unstable and easily decompose (about 50%) into silicon tetrafluoride and hydrogen fluoride at room temperature. The aqueous solution exhibits strong acidity and can generally produce a 60% aqueous solution, with an acid strength equivalent to sulfuric acid.
Fluorosilicic acid has disinfectant properties and can corrode glass, ceramics, lead, and other metals. It should be stored in containers made of iron, wax, or plastic. Used for metal electroplating, wood preservation, beer disinfection, etc. Also used as raw materials for the production of fluorosilicates and silicon tetrafluoride
Fluorosilicic acid is the basic raw material for producing sodiu
m, potassium, ammonium, magnesium, copper, barium, lead, and other fluorosilicates as well as silicon tetrafluoride. Used for metal electroplating, wood preservation, beer disinfection, disinfection of brewing industry equipment (1%~2% H2SiF6), and electrolytic refining of lead. It is also used as a mordant and metal surface treatment agent. Used as an analytical reagent for the determination of barium, separation of barium and strontium
2. Technical indicators
Impurity name | Index |
Assay | 23% min., 30%min., 34%min., 40% min. |
Free acid (HF) | 1% max. |
Sulfate(SO4) | 0.1% max. |
Iron(Fe) | 0.004% max. |
Lead(Pb) | 0.005% max. |
3. Packaging and storage
Package : 250kg/drum
Storage: Fluorosilicic acid should be stored at a constant temperature, preferably within the range of 0 ° C to 25 ° C, to prevent decomposition or crystallization. The storage area should have a good ventilation system to avoid excessive concentration of fluorosilicic acid vapor and reduce potential hazards. The container for storing fluorosilicic acid must be made of corrosion-resistant materials
